Catch Up at Equestrian Village

Last week, October competition got underway at Equestrian Village and ended with a win for 20-year-old Nora Nauss of Maple Plain, Minn., in the $24,999 IDA Development Grand Prix riding Dorchester for owners Team Welles & Whistler Equestrian on Sunday.

Breaking the timer beam in 32.494 seconds as the last to return over the short course, Nauss bested a five-horse jump-off over courses set by Hector Loyola. The young talent’s closest challenger was Pablo Barrios in the irons of his own Don d’Alme C Z, who finished in 33.3 seconds. Rounding out the podium placings, German Camargo took third aboard Ophelia, owned by Laurie Vanwynsberghe, in 35.726 seconds.

“We have gotten to grow a partnership together, which has been an amazing opportunity—she is so much fun to ride,” said Nauss, whose trainer, Andrew Welles, was given a bottle of champagne from class sponsor IDA Development. “It was nice to be able to go last. My plan was just to stick to what I walked, but I knew I could adjust if I needed to after seeing all the others jump already.

“She’s a lovely horse that you can just keep galloping on, and she will take whatever is there,” concluded Nauss.
