Catch Up at Equestrian Village
Last week, summer competition continued at Equestrian Village and was capped by a win for Ireland’s Cormac Hanley in the $24,999 Flagler Insurance Grand Prix riding Santiago vh Netehof for owner Heathman Farm on Sunday.

Hanley, now based in Wellington, Fla., and Santiago vh Netehof, an 8-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding (Untouchable 27 x Diamant de Semilly), are developing a bright future together.
“I’ve had him since he was five, and this year he just stepped up—he did his first FEI classes, and he’s had an amazing summer,” said Hanley, who has been campaigning Santiago at the two-star level with three victories in recent weeks. “We just gave him a month off, and this is his first show back.”
From an 8-horse jump-off, Santiago vh Netehof crossed the final timers in 32.491 seconds to deliver Hanley the win over Israel’s Ashlee Bond—also based in Wellington, Fla.,—riding Agrippina Farms’ Comme Ci Comme Ca, who stopped the clock at 33.368 seconds. Richard Neal of Wellington, Fla., finished third in 34.980 seconds aboard his own Catemaco LS.

“My next goal with him is to build back up to two-stars, and then we’ll end the year with some three-stars,” continued Hanley. “He’ll be nine next year, and hopefully you’ll see us in some of the night classes at WEF.”
Also highlighting jumper action, Chile’s Samuel Parot, Jr. opened the week by winning the Bainbridge Companies 1.40m in the irons of Indigo Z, a 13-year-old Zangersheide gelding (Inshallah De Muze x Catango Z), owned by Jill Greiner.
“I started with this horse in the 1.20m, and now we have been doing some FEI shows and a couple grands prix, and he’s feeling great,” said Parot, who chose to continue the horse’s development in Florida this winter. “I went early in the class today, so I wanted to put some pressure on—he’s jumping so well, and I think if we get him consistent, I am really excited for where he can go.”

Hunters returned to the derby field during Summer III for the $2,500 USHJA National Hunt & Go Derby, presented by Parlanti, won by Xavier Gomez of Wellington, Fla., aboard Pynnock van Horst, an 11-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding sired by Thunder van de Zuuthoeve and owned by Fortis Equine.
In a popular hunt & go format, Gomez rode Pynnock van Horst to a handy score of 84 for the win on a total score of 166 over runner-up Emery Everhart of Midland, Texas, and Dalton Equestrian’s Quathageno with a 163.
