Catch Up at Equestrian Village
The final grand prix win on the Equestrian Village derby field was written into history by Wellington-based Luis Fernando Larrazabal (VEN) on Sunday as he piloted Camp S to top the $24,999 Perfect Products Grand Prix.

“This is bittersweet,” said Larrazabal, a frequent winner on the derby field at Equestrian Village. “I was lucky to be able to make it to the last grand prix here with such a wonderful horse. This grass has been very, very nice to me the last couple of years, so I’m very happy to be able to win this one.”
Competition on grass will continue at Wellington International upon the opening of a state-of-the-art derby field at the newly constructed Wellington International South in the coming weeks. To learn more about the new competition surface, click HERE.
Larrazabal’s winning charge Camp S, a 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding (L.B. Crumble x Acorado), is owned and usually ridden by his student, Paloma Santa Cruz de Osma. “We bought her for Paloma a year ago, and today was about getting some experience and having a nice round before she comes back [to Wellington]. He is a very competitive, amazing horse.”

Camp S crossed the jump-off timers of Sunday’s Andy Christiansen-designed course in 36.143 seconds to take the win over Pieter De Brabandere riding Diacontaro Ps for owner Maarten Huygens. Their short course time was only fractions slower at 37.586 seconds. Jad Dana rounded out the podium with one pole on the ground in 37.012 seconds on Alles Goed, owned by Burr Associates.
