June II Recap
Wellington, Fla. – June 8, 2026—Colombia’s own German Camargo, now based in Loxahatchee, Fla., won Sunday’s $24,999 Arthramid Grand Prix riding Ophelia for owner Laurie Vanwynsberghe to conclude the second week of June competition during the 2026 Wellington International Annual Series.

The Annual Series’ June season runs for two weeks, featuring hunter, jumper and equitation competition at Wellington International, home of the famed Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF). Competition will now take a brief break before returning to the grass derby field at Equestrian Village for a four-week summer series running August 13-30. Learn more about the Annual Series HERE.
Hector Loyola (PUR) designed the grand prix tracks with nine horses advancing to an all-deciding jump-off. Camargo set an early standard over the short course, stopping the clock at 41.985 seconds.
Ophelia is owned and bred by Vanwynsberghe, who sent the now 12-year-old Belgian-bred mare (Diktator van de Boslandhoeve) to Camargo when she was barely saddle broke. He is still the only person to ever jump her.
“I have had her since the very beginning,” said Camargo, who leads a training business of 14 horses alongside his wife, Paula. Together, they have been based in the U.S. since 1999. “It was a good jump-off for [Ophelia] today—she is very fast, loves the grass and jumped really clean.”

When asked about their preparation, Camargo continued, “I don’t ride her at home. She goes on the lunge and walker at home, as well as in the paddock, and we get on her and go to the ring. She’s sensitive, but a real competitor. It works for her and saves her body.”
With a total of five horses breaking the start timers under his name, Venezuela’s Alejandro Karolyi qualified three for the jump-off and rounded out the remaining spots on the podium. Stopping the final timer at 42.414 seconds, he took second with his own Tempual LS and third aboard Cool as Fly in 43.14 seconds for owner Beverly Gepfer.

In a popular hunt & go format, Jacobs rode François in the gelding’s derby debut to top scores of 87 and 85 for a total of 172 from judges Casey Martino-Anzalone and Mark Bone. François is owned by Senan Hayes’ Whitestrand Stables.
After winning the same derby a week earlier, Marcus Au of Boca Raton, Fla., was the runner-up on a score of 171.25 riding Grace Kelly for owner Lori Custer. Rounding out the top three, Wellington native Alannah Parsons posted a 167.75 for third aboard Rasputin Abba, owned by Mill Pond Farm.
